Setting up a new iPad for children under 13
Students need to come with the iPad ready to use. What this means is that the iPad must be taken out of the box, powered on and the prompts to "set up" the iPad must be followed. Many of you have done this with your personal devices such as iPhones and Apple Watches. Students will need an Apple ID (an email address) and a password. Per the Federal Child Protection Act, Apple will not issue independent Apple IDs to children under the age of 13. If your child is 12 or under, you can obtain an Apple ID though Family Sharing on Apple. Please click the link below labeled Apple IDs for children under 13.
If your child is over 13, please follow the generic instructions for setting up an iPad with an independent Apple ID. Please note that families have the option of using Family Sharing as well, even if the child is over 13 years of age.
Note, if your child has an iPhone or an iPad at home, there is an Apple ID and password associated with that device.
